HERPETOFAUNA OF AN OPEN GRASSLAND AREA NEAR AUWAL NORTH, NORTH-EASTERN CAPE PROVINCE

Abstract

The local herpetofauna of an open grassland area near Aliwal North in the northeastern Cape Province was sampled using an array of three drift fences with preservative pit traps. Traps were serviced periodically over a 14 month period, from January 1989 to March 1990. A total of 53 specimens, comprising 31 amphibians (6 species) and 22 reptiles (7 species) were collected.
