Abstract

A system tailored to meet Southern African requirements has been developed with which wood anatomical descriptions and identification keys can be produced and on-line wood identification can be done. The system consists of three parts: computer-supported data acquisitioning, an information management system (the data base) and computerised data processing. Additional software developed include a preprocessor for the Pankhurst processor, a post-processor for the data base and various data-formatters.
