SOCIAL ORGANIZATION AND BEHAVIOUR OF AGAMA ACULEATA ACULEATA AND AGAMA PLANICEPS PLANICEPS (REPTILIA: AGAMIDAE) DURING THE BREEDING SEASON

Abstract

Agama aculeata aculeata is a solitary lizard with a monogamous mating system while Agama planiceps planicaps is a social species with a polygynous mating system. Territorial males of the two species differed in their tolerance towards subordinate males during the breeding season. Soliciting of territorial males by females was observed in A. p. planicaps.
