Abstract

Compared with other frog hosts, the genus Ptychadena appears to be a very suitable host for polystomatid parasites. More than half of all known Polystoma and Metapolystoma species occur in 10 species of Ptychadena. Members of the genus Ptychadena appear to be perfect hosts as they fulfil the morphological, physiological and ecological requirements of the polystomatids.
