HERPETOFAUNA OF THE ORANGE FREE STATE: AN INTERM UPDATE ON DISTRIBUTION

Abstract

Since the intensive reptile and amphibian surveys conducted by De Waal (1978; 1980a-b) in the Orange Free State, a number of additional specimens have been collected in the province. Several specimens housed at the National Museum as well as others in various southern African museums represent new distribution records, some of which will be discussed. Since De Waal's surveys, an additional three frog, one snake, and eleven lizard species have been determined as occurring in the Orange Free State.
