Breeding of West African Dwarf Crocodiles (Osteolaemus tetraspis tetraspis) at the Port Elizabeth Snake Park

Abstract

During the past three years, limited success has been achieved in breeding West African Dwarf Crocodiles (Osteolaemus tetraspis tetraspis) at the Port Elizabeth Snake Park. Mating behaviour, nest construction and defence of the nest mound are described. Clutch size and different methods of egg incubation are discussed. Feeding requirements and growth rates of hatchlings are also discussed.
