Chromoblastomycosis in a Madagascan Radiated Tortoise, Geochelone radiata

Abstract

An adult female Geochelone radiata with a large, ulcerated granuloma ventro-laterally on the skin of the neck was presented to the author. A species of Phialophora was isolated from surgical biopsies of the lesion and chromoblastomycosis was diagnosed. The granuloma was subsequently surgically removed in its entirety and the tortoise recovered without re-occurrence of fungal growth.
