Abstract

The account of the travels of French explorer Adulphe Delegorgue in Southern Africa between the years 1838 and 1844 was originally published in French c. 1850. Recently these accounts have been translated and published in English, by the University of Natal Press in Pietermaritzburg. Volume I appeared in 1990 and Volume II in 1997. The second volume of Delegorgue's Travels contains an approximately 800-item Vocabulaire de la Langue Zoulouse, showing that Delegorgue was not only a collector of plant, insect and animal specimens.
