Abstract

The aim of this article is to evaluate critically Bopape's Lenong la Gauta in the light of the basic elements of a detective story. Different scholars and authorities hold divergent views on these aspects. In this way, we will select and apply those that suit our purpose. In Northern Sotho there are very few works which one could regard as true detective novels. A humble beginning was made by D.N. Moloto with his book Tshipu e rile ke lebelo (1962). Other writers who made an attempt are V.M. Moloto, Letlapa la Bophelo (1983) and A.N. Maphoto, Leabela le a fetisa (1983).
