Abstract

Poetry is the most ancient form of literature known to man. It is an expression of man's most fundamental feelings and emotions. Imagery is a significant literary device for intensifying, clarifying, enriching and giving the readers or audience a grasp of object or situation described. The success of R F Ratshitanga's poetry lies in his usage of imagery. His imagery does not only blossom with attraction to the readers but gives form to sting of his protest. Allied to his constant use of images, there is another literary device which he uses with success and that is symbolism.
