Seasonal influences on the chemical control of bugweed (Solanum mauritianum)

Abstract

Bugweed (Solanum mauritianum) is one of the more troublesome weeds in the forest regions of Natal and both Southern and Eastern Transvaal. It grows vigorously, attaining a height of 5 m with a stem diameter of 20 cm and has rapidly spread during the last few years. Cut stems readily coppice and root suckers are common; the seed is believed to retain its viability for about ten years.
