Abstract

The strength of a nail-plated joint depends on the angle between the load and the plate as well as on the angle between the load and the grain of the timber. It is possible to interpolate the strength values for intermediate angles if the strengths are known for both angles being 0° and 90° respectively. Methods for calculating rotational and axial stiffness values for joints are given. Analog members can be used in a plane frame analysis to incorporate the semi-rigidity of the joints.
