Abstract

Fairly recently, at a working meeting held at Saasveld, George, I was asked to present a review on the phytogeographical relationships and the present and future conservation status of the “South Cape Forests”. This meeting was seen as a precursor to a Forest Biome research programme which is soon to be launched by the C.S.P. Division of the C.S.I.R. (the Co-operative Scientific Programmes Division of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research). Part of this review is given below in the hope that some of the information presented will stimulate a response from lovers of trees and lovers of forests in particular.
